What this job actually is.
LINK Books has kept small-business books running since 2012. We are Xero Platinum Partners and were named Xero's QLD Bookkeeping Partner of the Year - which matters here because it reflects how the work is actually done rather than how much of it there is.
This is a senior portfolio role. You own a group of clients outright: their bookkeeping, payroll, BAS, month-end and the conversations that come with all three. You are not working through a queue someone else assembled.
The difference from a standalone bookkeeping practice is what sits next to you. LINK Advisors' chartered accountants are in the same office, so when a client question crosses from bookkeeping into tax or structure, you walk it down the hall instead of telling the client to ask their accountant.
Day to day, and what we need.
What you'll do
- Own a portfolio of small-business clients across bookkeeping, payroll and BAS
- Run month-end: reconciliations, coding accuracy, and closing on time every time
- Prepare and lodge BAS and IAS
- Process payroll, including STP, superannuation and award interpretation
- Lead Xero conversions and set new clients up properly from day one
- Train clients on their own file so they get more out of it
- Support and check the work of less experienced bookkeepers
What we need
- Prior experience in a bookkeeping practice or accounting firm - not solely in-house
- Strong Xero proficiency
- Payroll experience including STP and super
- Comfortable being a client's main point of contact
Nice to have
- BAS Agent registration, or eligibility for it
- Xero conversion or migration experience
- Dext, Hubdoc or similar
- Experience training clients on their own file

Do I need to be a registered BAS Agent?
It is desirable rather than essential. If you are eligible but not yet registered, we will support you through it.
How many clients would I look after?
A portfolio sized so you can genuinely know each business rather than just process it. The exact number depends on complexity - a few larger payroll clients count for more than a set of simple files.
What software do you use?
Xero throughout - we are Platinum Partners - with Dext and Karbon around it. If you are strong in Xero, the rest is learnable here.
Is there progression from this role?
Yes. Senior bookkeepers here move into portfolio leadership, or across into the accounting side with study support if that is the direction you want. Both paths exist and people have taken them.
